Abstract

The following discussion article and the accompanying remarks and replies were presented at the first colloquium on the "EAZ Periodization Discussion", which was organized under the direction of G. Guhr on 31. 10. 1969. As the author of the introductory article, E. Hoffmann, notes, his contribution represents a version of the lecture which has been considerably extended in scope. The expansion results above all from the detailed substantiation of the views of Marx and Engels by quotations and from the more detailed exposition of Marx's stages of work.
