Abstract

From April 1968 to April 1969 the author had the opportunity of carrying out research on the traditional way of life of the East Kimberley Aborigines of North-Western Australia as well as on the history and present situation of European impact on the Aboriginal population of this area.
The project was facilitated by a Grant for Research of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies, Canberra, and a Forschungsauftrag der Karl-Marx-Universität, Leipzig, and consisted of two parts:
1. a period of social anthropological fieldwork in the area referred to in the title of this report,
2. a period of library study, particularly in Perth, W.A., prior and subsequent to the fieldwork.
