On the cremation customs of the Slavs in the 6th to 10th centuries in Poland

Abstract

On the cremation customs of the Slavic tribes in Poland from the 6th to the 10th century A.D. In the area of present-day Poland there are ninety certain and as many more probable cremation sites known dating from early Slavic middle ages. The author gives a survey of the contemporary situation of research into these sites. She distinguishes three phases in the development of funeral rites for this area, which in each case is characterised by different usages and regional variation in customs. She endeavours to reconstruct in detail the usages associated with cremation particularly the actual burning of the corpse as well as the cremation rituals. Her argument is supported chiefly by archaeological finds and written traditions dating from these times.

К погребальным обрядам с трупосожжением славян 6.-10. вв. в Польше.
С территории польского государства стало известно более 90 достоверных и примерно то же число подозреваемых местонахождений с трупосожжениями раннесредневековославянской поры. Автор дает обзор современного состояния исследований. В развитии погребального обряда этой территории можно различить три фазы, характеризованные различными обрядами и региональным распространением определенных, отличающихся между собой обрядами. Автор пытается произвести подробную реконструкцию связанных с трупосожжением обрядов, особенно самого сожжения трупов, а также и погребального ритуала. При этом он ссылается прежде всего на археологические данные и на современные письменные предания.
