Special issue proposals

We welcome proposals for special issues curated by guest editors.

To propose a special issue, please submit a short proposal (as a single PDF file) to eaz@ufg.uni-kiel.de. The proposal should include:

  • Title of the special issue;

  • Name(s) of guest editor(s);

  • Concept description (2–3 pages outlining the theme and relevance);

  • Tentative list of contributions: Include author names, titles, and abstracts if available (this list is not binding and can change later). Contributions may be submitted in any language; English or German translations are encouraged. We also accept bilingual submissions;

  • Proposed timeline: Approximate dates for submission, peer review, and publication;

  • List of potential peer reviewers (optional).

The editorial board evaluates proposals based on:

  • Relevance to the scope of EAZ;

  • A sufficient number of submissions (ideally 5–6 or more);

  • Thematic coherence across the proposed articles.

Role of the guest editors

Guest editors are provided with a high degree of autonomy in overseeing each production stage of the articles and are credited on the issue cover.
Unless a conflict with the journal’s ethical standards arises, final editorial decisions for individual submissions within the special issue rest with the guest editors. The EAZ Editorial Board is available for consultation whenever needed.

Guest editors are responsible for:

  • Inviting authors to contribute;

  • Setting the timeline for submission and review;

  • Recommending reviewers;

  • Writing and promoting the CfP through personal or institutional channels (if applies);

  • Conducting substantive editing of the articles after peer review, with a focus on structure, argument and clarity;

  • Writing an editorial for the issue.

Responsibilities of the EAZ Team

The EAZ editorial team takes care of:

  • Editorial coordination;

  • Copy-editing and proofreading;

  • Galley proof and cover design;

  • Online (open access) and limited print publication (1 copy per author and reviewer; 3 copies per guest editor);

  • Promoting the issue via our website and social media.

Costs

There are no publication fees for guest editors or authors.
All production costs are covered by EAZ (ROOTS, JMA).
